A masterpiece of art is more than a pleasant thing to look at. It also can enlighten us about the human condition.
Masters such as Giotto and Michelangelo help us understand the nature of femininity and masculinity in their representations of beauty and strength.
For example, the sculpted female figures on the Acropolis (seen above) not only beautify the building, but they are also strong enough to hold it together.
Our modern ideas of what it means to be male and female are grounded in the ancient temples and classic paintings that can still be seen by today’s visitors to Italy and Greece.
That is why the noted spiritual coach and workshop leader, Hope Fitzgerald, has organized a Tour of Italy and Greece October 12 – 23, 2026. Her group will investigate the icons of masculinity and femininity in order to change them into more positive definitions for the future.
Would you like to help re-write the old blueprints by joining Hope’s tour?
Here are a few of the classic sites included in the itinerary:
- In Florence, see Brunelleschi’s Dome, Giotto’s Bell Tower, and Michelangelo’s David as well as some of his early works
- Visit the Basilica of San Domenico in Siena, where Saint Catherine lived
- In Assisi, go to the tomb of Saint Francis, plus the hermitage where he prayed
- Plus we’ll see the tombs of Galileo, Michelangelo, and Machiavelli
- In Athens, we’ll tour the Acropolis with its Caryatid columns, embodying the balance of beauty and strength
- In Delphi, Greece we’ll visit Delphi, where the female Oracle spoke to Socrates and Plato, as well as Kings and Priests, who sought her wisdom
Of course we will appreciate the ancient places, museums and attractions, but we will also delve into how the traditional divisions no longer serve us and discover more positive definitions for more balanced living.
