When I wrote about Hopi Prophecy Rock a few weeks ago, I mistakenly thought this important sacred site had been well known to the Hopi nation for countless generations. Today, I discovered this is not the case.
I was reading through one of my favorite books, “Sacred Places: How the Living Earth Seeks Our Friendship” by James A. Swan, when I discovered a passage about Hopi history that I had completely forgotten about…
“In 1964,” Swan writes, “Hopi elder Thomas Banyacya attended a special elders’ meeting held at one of the high mesas of Arizona. At that meeting, one of the elders spoke of a special sacred rock where a most important ancient prophecy was etched in stone as a petroglyph. Banyacya and the elder went off in search of this rock and eventually found it. With the utmost care they scraped away the lichen and mosses, revealing an ancient rock art carving which describes the history of North America and gives all members of modern society a chance to understand the choices they face for survival.”
Hopi Prophecy Rock is one of the featured destinations of a Sedona tour now being offered by Body Mind Spirit Journeys. It’s a singles tour, and it’s happening this coming November during the Thanksgiving long weekend. The tour host, Clint Frakes, will also take the group on excursions to some of the major energy vortexes in Sedona, as well as leading meditations and other spiritual ceremonies, including one at a Medicine Wheel.
Because so many people travel during the holidays, anyone who wants to be a part of this program is advised to make reservations soon, as flights are quickly becoming filled up.
