In the Occitanie region in southern France, Alet-les-Bains is more than picturesque and historic. This medieval village is mystical. It’s name means “the Chosen Place,” and such historic characters as Charlemagne and Nostradamus came to Alet because of its healing energies and the “magical elixir water” it is famous for.
That’s why Kathleen McGowan chose Alet as the destination for a full week’s immersive French experience. Our group will stay in small, private homes as the bases for explorations into historic chateaux, award-winning vineyards, gastronomic adventures, and much more.
Here are some highlights…
- Visit a 12th century cathedral believed to contain a linen cloth which covered Jesus’ head at his burial
- See the Black Madonna of Rocamadour, considered by many to be the High Queen of Black Madonnas
- Visit the “bandit town” in an unspoiled medieval village where Cathars were hidden from persecution
- Journey up a mountain to a place where Nazis believed the Ark of the Covenant was buried
- Visit the cave where Mary Magdalene taught and preached
- Tour Rennes le Chateau where the mysterious priest Berenger Sauniere inspired so many books including The Expected One, and that Dan Brown story involving Da Vinci
This “Mysteries of the Magdalene and Secrets of the Cathars” tour is happening May 30-June 12, 2022, and we still have a few spaces available.
