the Serengeti, Ngorongoro and Lake Manyara
Then off to Zanzibar for the perfect ending of our African adventure
September 7 – 21, 2025
THIS TOUR IS NOW SOLD OUT
Perched on the edge of the African Continent and facing the Indian Ocean, Tanzania is a traveler’s dream destination with people and tribes whose varied cultures and traditions make up the country’s rich tapestry and the place to experience the best wildlife of an African Safari.
Nothing can top the magic of a safari in this East African country that has a remarkable diversity of wildlife, seen up close in the stunning Ngorongoro Crater, home to some 25,000 species; in the Serengeti National Park, renowned for its migration of nearly two million wildebeest; and where many of the “Big Five” (lion, leopard, rhinoceros, elephant, and Cape buffalo) can be seen. We have combined a traditional safari game-viewing itinerary along with cultural expeditions as well. Your “down time” will allow you to relax at some of the most luxurious safari camps on the continent.
One of your highlights will be experiencing the Great Migration, one of the largest herd movements of animals on the planet. The numbers are astonishing: over 1.2 million wildebeest and 300,000 zebra along with gazelles moving in a constant cycle through the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem in search of nutritious grass and water. Guided by survival instinct, each wildebeest will cover from 500 to 800 miles on its individual journey along age-old migration routes. Hungry predators make sure only the strongest survive in this natural spectacle also known as ‘the greatest show on Earth.’
After days of the magnificence of the Reserves… we will enjoy the final days of our trip relaxing and exploring the island of Zanzibar! The spectacular white sandy beaches of the east coast await us, all while learning about the nature, culture and history of the Spice Islands. A new adventure awaits!

Depart San Francisco for our connecting flights to Tanzania.
Day 2, Monday, September 8: Arrive in Qatar
Late afternoon arrival in Qatar, where you are in transit and escorted to your Transit Hotel to relax and refresh and relax a bit before checking in to your flight that leaves after midnight.
Day 3, Tuesday, September 9: Arrive in Tanzania (L/D)
Departure from Qatar to Dar Es Salam, Tanzania. Here we transfer to our local flight with an afternoon arrival in Kilimanjaro Airport in Arusha Tanzania where we will transfer to our accommodations in Karatu and refresh after our long flights. Dinner at our Lodge and afterwards our driver & guides will go over your upcoming African adventure. Overnight in Karatu.
Day 4, Wednesday, September 10: In Karatu. Ngorongaro Crater Reserve. (B/L/D)
Today’s special game drive will be to the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is one of the three Tanzanian Seven Wonders of Africa! The Crater shelters one of the most beautiful wildlife havens anywhere. A permanent population of more than 25,000 animals inhabit a mere 100 square miles in the 2,000 ft deep crater, making this one of the few places in Africa where you have a chance of seeing the entire Big Five during a single game drive. It is also one of the last remaining places in Tanzania where we can still see the endangered Black Rhino. After lunch, we continue our Safari game-viewing as the crater floor is also host to some of the highest concentrations of carnivores in the world, featuring large prides of lions, packs of hyenas and solitary predators like cheetahs and jackals. A keen eye paired with expertly procured search patterns from our guide is sure to help us spot a wide range of wildlife and perhaps some of the more elusive species like leopards, servals, and bat-eared foxes. Return to our hotel for dinner and our overnight.
Day 5, Thursday, September 11: To the Serengeti (B/L/D)
Today we travel to what some believe to be the birthplace of mankind, the Olduvai Gorge. Olduvai is internationally recognized for Louis and Mary Leakey’s famous discoveries of early humans and magnificent antiquities documenting the two-million-year evolutionary history of our stone tool-using ancestors. Lunch will be at the Naabi Gate before arriving at our safari campsite in the actual Serengeti for our overnight. This is Tanzania’s oldest and most recognized National Park.
A land of unparalleled game viewing, from great herds of grazing herbivores to tactically cunning packs of carnivores, life on the plains of the Serengeti truly epitomizes the “circle of life.” A paradise for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts alike, it is all but guaranteed that you will spot giraffes and elephants feasting on shrubbery, impalas, gazelles and buffaloes traipsing carefully through the plains to avoid being noticed by on-looking lions, cheetahs and hyenas, and a spectacular range of birdlife flitting through the sky. Dinner and “glamping” at our Serengeti Luxury Camp.
Day 6, Friday, September 12: In the Serengeti to view the Great Migration (B/L/D)
Another action-packed day as we travel to the Northern part of the Serengeti and the Mara River for the famous Great Migration to Wildebeest River to watch the crossing as thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra try their luck at crossing these crocodile infested rivers. It’s the migration for which the Serengeti is perhaps most famous for. Over a million wildebeest and about 200,000 zebras
flow south from the northern hills to the southern plains for the short rains and then swirl west and north after the long rains. So strong is the ancient instinct to move that no drought, gorge or crocodile infested river can hold them back. It is unclear how the wildebeest know which way to go, but it is generally believed that their journey is dictated primarily by their response to the weather; they follow the rains and the growth of new grass. After viewing this spectacle, we return to our Camp for our overnight in the Serengeti at our Pamoja Migration campsite.
Day 7, Saturday, September 13: In the Serengeti (B/L/D)
Depart for game watching in the Central Serengeti. There is simply no better place in Africa to observe the large carnivores and since many are resident, excellent encounters may be seen where the great migratory herds are located. The Serengeti is largely defined by the hundreds of miles of flat grassland that dominate the landscape. Local aboriginals are passionate about the Serengeti and possess incredible acumen with regard to its ecosystem. This morning, set out with our private guide into this magnificent park to track animals and take in the breathtaking beauty of this timelessly beautiful landscape as we climb aboard our safari vehicle and head to the vast savanna of the Serengeti in pursuit of exciting wildlife sightings.
With approximately 70 species of large mammals freely roaming its wild terrain, the park is rightfully considered to be among the finest game viewing areas in the world. As you traverse the grassy plains of the Serengeti, look out for species such as blue wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, lion, giraffe, and many more. See both grazers and predators in their natural habitat; and take in the enchanting landscape, it is not unusual to see all four large predators (lion, hyena, leopard and cheetah) during the day in this part of the Serengeti. Return to our Camp for dinner and our overnight.
Day 8, Sunday, September 14: To Lake Manyara Reserve (B/L/D)
After breakfast, we will have a game drive on our way to the Serengeti air strip for our short flight to Lake Manyara. The Manyara region is a land of sweeping plains, giant figs and mahogany trees
and is host to a range of herbivores including hippos, impalas, elephants, wildebeests, buffalo, warthogs and giraffes. The scenic Lake Manyara National Park offers guests incredible photography opportunities. Upon arrival, we will drive to our luxury resort for lunch and the rest of the afternoon free. Dinner at our hotel.
Day 9, Monday, September 15: At Lake Manyara Reserve (B/L/D)
After breakfast we are off to Lake Manyara National Park. Lake Manyara stretches for 30 miles along the base of the rusty-gold 1,800 ft. high Rift Valley escarpment and is a scenic gem, with a setting extolled by Ernest Hemingway as “the loveliest I had seen in Africa”. Contrasting with the intimacy of the forest is the grassy flood plain and its expansive views eastward, across the alkaline lake to the jagged blue volcanic peaks that rise from the endless Maasai Steppes. The Park is known for tree climbing
lions and the soda ash lake with its flamingos. Additionally, you will see many elephants, giraffes, zebras, wildebeest and the small, shy Kik’s dik dik dashing about the ramps of the escarpment. Lake Manyara has Africa’s largest herds of baboons. After Lunch at the lodge, we have a special afternoon event where you’ll experience what it’s like to live as a Maasai Warrior when we visit a traditional Maasai Bhoma. This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience as we listen to their ancient stories while watching the mighty dancers compete. Return to our hotel for our overnight at Lake Manyara.
Day 10, Tuesday, September 16: To Arusha and on to Zanzibar (B/L/D)
An early transfer to Arusha. Upon arrival in Arusha, we will visit the Arusha Heritage Cultural Center with its new Jane Goodall Chimp Museum to learn more about her study of wild chimpanzees in what was a breakthrough in primate research … PLUS some time for shopping. A late lunch and then transfer to the airport for our flight to Zanzibar. On arrival, transfer to our accommodations, dinner and our stay our final destination.

Day 12, Thursday, September 18: In Zanzibar (B/L/D)

Witness the grandeur of the House of Wonders, a testament to Zanzibar’s opulent past. Admire the architecture of the city and learn about its history.
