Body Mind Spirit Journeys & Path to Awakening

Journey to the Center of an Ancient World
October 20-24, 2022
Hosted by Irina Grundler
Today the massive buildings of the ancestral Pueblo peoples still testify to the organizational and engineering abilities not seen anywhere else in the American Southwest. This spiritual journey will bring you into deeper contact with the canyon that was central to thousands of people between 850 and 1250 A.D. as well as other New Mexico spiritual destinations.
For all the wild beauty of Chaco Canyon’s high-desert landscape, its long winters, short growing seasons and marginal rainfall created an unlikely place for a major center of ancestral Puebloan culture to take root and flourish. Yet this valley was the center of a thriving culture a thousand years ago. The monumental scale of its architecture, the complexity of its community life, the high level of its community social organization and its far-reaching commerce created a cultural vision unlike any other seen before or since.
In addition to the visit to the Canyon, our native New Mexico guide will be showing us other special spiritual destinations such as Taos, the Pueblo Puye Cliff Dwellings, which is known as the “Place between Earth & Sky” to learn of Native American’s most awe-inspiring cultural attractions featuring cliff & cave dwellings. Plus we will have a “Sense of Place” walking tour of Santa Fe.
For years a general path of a spiritual seeker has been looking up to our Higher Self, to the Creator. However recently we realized that indigenous teachings direct us to reconnect with the very ground beneath our feet, to honor the life-giving force of Mother Earth.

Day Three- Saturday, October 22: To Chaco Canyon (B/L)
After an early breakfast we start our tour to Chaco Culture National Historic Park. On the way we will travel through the Santa Ana Pueblo and the Jemez Pueblo. We will arrive at Chaco Culture National Historic Park in the late morning. Our first stop will be at the Visitor’s Center for an orientation of the area. Our journey will be on the ten-mile loop road with its six major sites as we visit Una Vida and the petroglyphs along with Hungo Pavi, an unexcavated Chacoan Great House. On one of our walks into these prehistoric places, we will have time to sit for a meditation and grounding with nature and the ancients. Then spend the balance of the visit at Pueblo Bonito, the most thoroughly investigated and celebrated cultural site in Chaco Canyon. Planned and constructed in stages between AD 850 and AD 1150 by ancestral Puebloan peoples, this was the center of the Chacoan world. We will have a box lunch provided during our program. In the late afternoon we will depart the Canyon and travel back to Santa Fe for our overnight and dinner on our own.
Day Four- Sunday October 23: In Santa Fe – To Taos (B/L/D)
After breakfast we travel the “High Road to Taos.” This historic, scenic road is filled with Spanish, Pueblo and Mexican history. We’ll see villages, Missions, houses, ranches and shops that date back to the 1600s and 1700s. A stop will be made at Chimayó, a traditional folk village with galleries featuring work by award-winning artists, woodworkers and weavers. Here we will find the 19th-century Santuario de Chimayó, known as the “Lourdes of the Southwest,” that attracts thousands of pilgrims each year, seeking the “miraculous dirt” believed to have healing powers. We continue to San Jose de Gracia de las Trampas, an 18th-century mission church, one of New Mexico’s best-preserved examples of Spanish Colonial architecture. At Peñasco we journey west to rustic Dixon where join the Rio Grande Gorge, following the river to Ranchos de Taos. Here we’ll see the famous San Francisco de Asis Church which has been photographed by Ansel Adams and painted by Georgia O’keeffe. After a light lunch at Ranchos Plaza Grill, we depart for a guided tour of historic Taos Pueblo learning about this scenic, ancient Tiwa village and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Our next stop is the dramatic Rio Grande Gorge Bridge before returning to historic Taos Plaza galleries and shops. Late afternoon we return to Santa Fe following the “low road” along the Rio Grande River. Time to refresh ourselves before our Farewell dinner at a local restaurant.

Travel Insurance
As travel professionals, Body Mind Spirit Journeys highly recommends travel insurance. Sometimes unexpected circumstances can arise. A sudden emergency just before or during your trip could spoil your vacation and deplete your resources.
We have recently seen some of our valued travelers lose not only their non-refundable deposits, but also their entire tour payments because they hoped they would not need trip cancellation insurance.
You should protect your trip investment and yourself in regards to health, property and trip payments. That is why we provide you with an easy way to contact BMSJ’s preferred insurance provider, Allianz Global Assistance. If you need additional information or have questions, please call Allianz directly at 1-800-284-8300, and refer to code F025323.
BMSJ will be sending you additional details and a brochure with your confirmation on trip cancellation/interruption insurance.
