Rose of Sophia and Body Mind Spirit Journeys Present
MALTA
Hosted by Nancy Auspelmyer & Ling Chen
October 19 – 25, 2022
Optional Pre-Tour Extension to Sicily October 13 – 19
Referred to as the “Islands of Peace,” the island nation of Malta is steeped in millennia of layers of spiritual history. What better place to tour sacred sites and discover masterpieces of church architecture and art than these jewels of the Mediterranean, the mystical Islands of Malta. Malta is home to the oldest man-made structures on earth – the mysterious and magnificent megalithic temples. It’s tremendously significant as the centuries-old home of the Knights of Saint John and has deep Templar connections. The importance of Malta in WWII can’t be underestimated in terms of geo-political impact, and Malta is one of the few places in the world that is directly and verifiably discussed in the Bible.
Come join Nancy & Ling on this special spiritual journey in the cradle of human history and spirituality!

ITINERARY
Day 1, Thursday, October 19: Arrival in Malta (D)
Arrival in Malta and transfer on your own to our hotel. Be sure to arrive in time to join the welcome dinner at 7pm. Dinner at our hotel.
Day 2, Thursday, October 20: Excursion to Valetta and the Blue Grotto (B/L/D)
After a leisurely breakfast we depart the hotel for a tour of Valetta. Valletta is named after the French Grandmaster Jean Parisot De La Valette, who headed the defense of Malta from the Ottoman invasion in 1565. Valletta boasts many buildings from the 16th century, mostly baroque architecture that was built by the Knights of St. John. One could say that Valletta is actually a monument donated by the Knights. Walk to the Upper Barracca Gardens for a panoramic view of the Grand Harbor. Then on to St. John’s Cathedral, Malta’s greatest treasure, featuring the famous painting by Caravaggio. We proceed to Wied iz-Zurrieq to view the Temple of Mnajdra and the Hagar Qim Temple. Mnajdra is a temple that holds Cosmic and Earth time. It aligns the Masculine and Feminine energies! Hagar Qim Temple was built like a clock in a clock to map all time. After lunch, we continue our afternoon touring with a boat ride into the Grotto (weather permitting) to view the magnificent underwater flora. Return to our hotel for dinner.
Day 3, Friday, October 21: To Gozo (B/L/D)
An early start with a ferry ride to the magical island of Gozo, the legendary abode of Calypso. Gozo’s charm is apparent the moment you arrive there and Gozitans have their own individual character and identity, with noticeably different lifestyles, accents and dialect. Here our guide will give us an overview of the Temple’s history to connect with the three mountaintops of Malta (Power); Comino (Wisdom) and Gozo (Joy & Love). We continue to the Xewkija Chuch and its powerful vortex. We will stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing to visit the Ggantija prehistoric temples in Xaghra. Ggantija was a cosmic healing center and it is connected to the human consciousness and the Divine mind. We conclude this exciting day with a visit to the Citadel (Citadella) and some time for local shopping. Return to our hotel for dinner and our overnight.
Day 4, Saturday, October 22: To Mellieha & Combino (B/L/D)
Today we visit the Sanctuary of our Lady, located at the edge of a hill, in the heart of Mellieha. Built in the late 19th century, this church is popular both for pilgrimages and for the magnificent views it offers over Mellieha bay, Gozo and Comino. The older part of the sanctuary still stands today, dating back to the late 16th century. The monumental arch was built in 1719, to honor the blessing of rain after an extended time of drought. The inscription to Our Lady states “In thee have fathers hoped; they hoped and thou hast delivered them.” The crypt was one of the natural caves found in the northern part of Malta. According to tradition, the Byzantine style fresco showing the Virgin Mary holding Christ was painted by St. Luke, when he was shipwrecked on the island. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in the town of Rabat. After lunch we will visit the Crystal City Portal. Legend says that beneath the surface of Gaia is another world called Agartha – the fifth dimensional cities and kingdoms of Inner Earth. Before the great floods inundated the beautiful green-valley which is now the Mediterranean Sea, many of the sages, priests, elders and enlightened masters of Atlantis went to live beneath the Earth’s surface. They went to the Crystal City situated under Maltese soil and sea. On our way back to our hotel, we will also visit the Dingli Cliffs and view the chapel dedicated to Mary Magdalene as entrance is no longer permitted. It is believed that she stopped here prior to her final destination in France. Dinner and overnight at our hotel after a long day.
Day 5, Sunday, October 23: To Mosta, Hagrat & Skorba (B/L/D)
An early start as we head straight to Mosta, a fairly large village in the center of the island. The Mosta Church is believed to be one of the most concentrated energy spots in Malta. The Mosta Dome is the fourth largest dome in the world and an imposing structure, which bridges the past, the present and the future: the past, as it connects with the prehistoric temples and the goddess energy; the present, as it holds the Christ energy in its core, and the future, as it is the opener of the portal of the future where it connects the four natural elements of fire, water, earth, and air to the ether. From here you head up to Ta’ Hagrat, a sacred site where energies were anchored and transmitted. Ta’Hagrat consists of two adjacent temples, the older one dates back to the Ggantija phase (3,600-3,200 BCE). After lunch, we journey to Skorba temples that were excavated in the 1960s. This excavation resulted in the discovery of two temples, that also date back to the Ggantija and the Tarxien (3,150-2,500 BCE) phases. Skorba, a space of anchoring cosmic energies, was occupied long before the temples were built. The earliest remains consist of a stretch of wall dating back to the Ghar Dalam phase (5,000-4,300 BCE). Remains of wheat, lentil and barley seeds together with pottery, animal bone and stone tools were found next to this wall. The Skorba temple is probably the most ancient site in Malta and has very powerful energy among the stone circle family. It is possible that the rest of the temple is still buried underground. At the end of this exciting day, we return to St. Paul’s Bay for dinner and overnight.
Day 6, Monday, October 24: To Tarxien & Hypogeum (B/L/D)
After breakfast we start our day with a short walk to visit the Dolmen Temples in Bugibba. After a short visit and meditation, we continue to the astonishing subterranean temple, the Hypogeum, recently called “One of the world’s best preserved prehistoric sites” by the Smithsonian and a place of extraordinary construction and energy. We will drive to the southern part of the island and start with a visit to the complex of megalithic temples of Tarxien, Malta’s most important antiquities. The group here will be split into groups of 10 where one group will visit the Tarxien Temples, a school of wisdom, and the second group of 10 will visit the Hypogeum Temples. After each group’s visit, they will switch Temple visits. Discovered in 1902 during construction works, the Hal Saflieni Hypogeum is a complex made up of interconnecting rock-cut chambers set on three distinct levels. Earliest remains at the site date back to about 4000 BC. Hypogeum helps connect our inner self to the Earth. It was also a school of dream interpretation and telepathic communication. After both Temples have been visited we will head down to the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. With an old history dating back to the ninth century BC, it was in Marsaxlokk bay that the first Phoenicians arriving in Malta landed and set up their businesses. Its hill of Tas-Silg was used as a religious site and still contains remains of megalithic temples of the Tarxien phase. Today Marsaxlokk is a charming village with its traditional, brightly painted Luzzus, tasty fish restaurants and its green water. After some relaxing time and lunch, we return to our hotel. This evening we have our final dinner at a local Maltese restaurant.
Day 7, Tuesday, October 25: Malta Tour Ends (B)
Our tour of Malta ends after breakfast. Transfer to the airport on your own.
Note: Entrances to the Tarxien & Hypogeum temples are limited and subject to availability.
