SACRED IRELAND Post – Killarney Tour
June 24 – 25, 2015
After the official tour ends in Killarney on June 24, why not join Kathleen on a special overnight tour in the ancient region of County Clare. Besides viewing more of the magnificent Irish countryside, you will have a chance to explore the pretty village of Adare, spend some time at the Bunratty Folk Park, an open-air museum that re-enacts life in Ireland in the 1800s, and end your day with a very special medieval banquet including entertainment at Bunratty Castle.
Your Itinerary
Day 1: Friday 24th June 2016 – Depart Killarney (B/D)
This morning depart for the pretty village of Adare for a little time for independent exploration and lunch on your own. Then continue to the Bunratty Folk Park where 19th century life is vividly recreated. Set on 26 acres, the impressive park features over 30 buildings in a ‘living’ village and rural setting. Meet and chat with the Bean an Ti (Woman of the House) and various street characters including the “local” policeman and schoolteacher. Enjoy the tastes, scents, sights and sounds of this enchanting place as you stroll from house to house or around the charming village complete with school, post office, doctors house, hardware shop, printers and of course the pub! In the late afternoon we continue to our hotel.
Time to rest a bit before we leave for our medieval banquet and entertainment at Bunratty Castle. The current Bunratty Castle was built in the 15th century by the Earl of Thomond and stands on the banks of the Rathy River. The earlier castle that stood here was built by Kathleen’s ancestors, the de Clare family, in the 13th century and her 22nd grandmother, Margaret de Clare was born here in 1287! In modern times, the ladies of the Castle have welcomed guests from all over the world to join them at The Earl’s Banquet for the last 40 years. The evening begins with a mead reception in the Great Hall of the castle, then downstairs to enjoy a four course meal with red & white wine. This is followed by entertainment by the world renowned Bunratty Castle Entertainers accompanied by harp and violin. The banquet is held twice nightly during the high season. Return to our hotel for our Overnight at the Radisson Shannon Airport hotel.
