Theatre tradition considers it very bad luck to utter the name of the Shakespearian play that features a character named Macbeth, so thespians call it \u201cThe Scottish Play.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bard of Avon based his \u201ctragedie\u201d on the very real 11th century King of Scots, named Mac Bethad mac Findl\u00e1ich, who ruled from 1040 to 1057. His grave is on the Isle of Iona in Scotland\u2019s Inner Hebrides.<\/p>\n

Besides MacBeth, 47 other Scottish kings, including\u00a0Duncan<\/span>\u00a0and Donald Bane are buried at Iona Abbey.<\/p>\n

Known as the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland, the monastery on Iona was founded by Saint Columba, who sailed from Ireland in AD 563 in a small open boat with 12 companions.<\/p>\n

The present-day Benedictine Abbey dates back to 1164, and it was reconstructed in the late 19th century. It is one of the most sacred and mystical locations in the world.<\/p>\n
